Description:
These two cassettes of about 20 minutes from the Pluspy In Car series feature driving demonstrations on open roads by japanese racing driver Keiichi Tsuchiya, then around 30 years old. Taking in each video a specific mountain pass (Usui in the first one, Gotemba in the second), he offers an amazing show thanks to his advanced drift techniques and his perfect knowledge of AE86s. Both videos are divided into an introduction, a summary of Keiichi's record, the pass attack followed by some actions in slow motion, and a short ending, all enhanced by a Muzak-style soundtrack. Note that Part 2 contains audio recordings of Keiichi.
Story:
Released in 1987, these two VHS tapes have a peculiar story. Indeed, it wasn't an easy task to buy them, as there were only two ways to do so: get to the tuning shop Pluspy of Kanagawa or order them via 'Carboy' magazine (on plain paper). Each video was sold with stickers (two Keiichi and Pluspy decals by VHS).
The videos had important consequences for the Drift King, because he got his racing licence suspended by the JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) due to his aggressive driving on open roads. As a result, the two video tapes were taken off the market quickly: few cassettes were therefore sold and they are nowadays very sought after. At the time of their release, each VHS cost 5800 ¥, but now prices have risen very sharply and the pack of both tapes costs more than 150 € on the internets.
